Seven Great Things To Help Plan A Kids Party
- Set a sensible budget
It is best to check out prices for decorations, entertainers, soft play etc. Then set a figure and stick to it, things can get out of hand if you freestyle. - Set the date time and location
Venues get booked well in advance, particularly at weekends so don’t book anything else until you have secured your venue. Avoid dates with big clashes, sporting events, Royal Weddings etc. Saturdays are busiest; Sunday is often a good choice. - Think about numbers early
15 – 25 children is a good number however small intimate parties can be great and if you absolutely must invite two complete school classes, you may need extra help. If you are booking entertainment, be sure the entertainers are aware of numbers. - Arrange helpers for the day
Don’t assume that other parents will be available to help so better to ask in advance, grandparents are great if available and babysitters sometimes want some extra cash. - Plan for the space
If you are planning on a home party, remember as well as the children, you may also need to accommodate parents and siblings, babes in arms, pushchairs umbrellas and various extraneous bits and bobs.
Entertainers work best with a little bit of room to do their thing and face painters and balloon twisters need to be able to communicate with the children, it is all part of the performance to crack jokes and be a bit silly so please don’t put them next to a bouncy castle.
Lay out food tables with the above in mind; try to keep the central space clear for games and entertainment. - Think of a theme
This is not an absolute necessity but can add a great deal to the event however, it is important not to discuss this in advance with the child or children as things will then descend into impossible detail leading to disappointment. Far better to use your knowledge of the child to do something that you know they will love and discuss with any entertainers just what is possible within your budget. - Don’t fuss over small details
Once things get going on the day, things that seemed really important tend to lose their significance, the children will dictate what they like and they are notoriously difficult to second guess.
Be as flexible as you can bear, go with the flow and keep smiling.
